Where are you situated?
What is the best time of year to come & hunt?
Mattanja Hunting Safaris main camp is in South Africa in the Province of Limpopo.
Hunting is excellent throughout the year and it depends on what type of weather you enjoy. From September to March is our summer months and maximum temperatures of up to 40°C / 104°F can be expected. From April to August is our cooler months and during middle winter low temperatures can be expected early mornings and evenings.
Do you offer hunts in other African Countries?
What type of terrain can be expected?
Yes, we mainly offer hunts in Zimbabwe, other than South Africa, and have access to some of the best Dangerous Game Hunting Areas in Zimbabwe. We also have access to areas in Namibia and Mozambique.
Most of the time the terrain we will be hunting in will be your typical bushveld terrain. We may go up into mountainous areas if that majestic Kudu or elusive Klipspringer is on your bucket list.
What hunting methods are normally used?
What caliber rifle & ammo do you recommend?
Hunting is mostly done by walk and stalk method. Hunting vehicles are used to get to good areas to start walking or to locate fresh spoor to start tracking.
For Dangerous Game a minimum caliber of .375 H&H is required by law and for Plains Game any .30 Caliber Rifle will be sufficient equipped with a good quality scope. Ammunition we recommend any Premium Grade softs for Plains Game and Solids & Softs for Dangerous Game.
Can I rent a rifle for my Safari?
Yes, we have a variety of rifles available for hire.
Are Visas needed for South Africa?
No Visas are needed for citizens from the USA or UK. Please check with your local authorities. Lesotho and Swaziland are countries located within South Africa but not part of South Africa
